Session Theme: Promotion of Indian Design for Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self – reliant India)
The focal theme of this year’s summit is laying emphasis on the overarching role played by Design to bring cutting edge solutions and a way forward for design-based investment promotion in India. As life and livelihood across the globe experience series of disruption, we must leverage design capabilities to encourage economic growth. Atmanirbhar Bharat, translated as self-reliant India, is a mission launched by the Government and is aimed at enabling Indian economic resurgence and emphasises the need for adopting pragmatic development strategies to enable the country to recognise and capitalise on its inherent strengths. The Mission also advocates the need for India's active participation in the post-COVID global value chains. Speakers:

Session 2
Session Theme: Design intervention in Healthcare sector
Health care systems require continuous innovation to meet the needs of patients and providers. However, these stakeholders are not always considered when new interventions or system processes are designed, which results in products that remain unused because they do not account for human context, need, or fallibility. This approach also likely contributes to the decades-long gaps between intervention development and implementation. Design Thinking offers a way to close that gap by helping investigators incorporate user needs and feedback throughout the development process.
Design Thinking has been used across sectors to solve complex problems. Design Thinking is similar to both “user-centered design” and “human-centered design”. The human-centred approach combines a research methodology that focuses on the needs of people, a design methodology that allows for innovative solutions and an implementation strategy that uses a wide system view. The Indo-German panel will deliberate on how Design can be integrated in Health Tech to design innovative products. Speakers:

Session 3
Session Theme: Innovation by Design
Innovation by design is the utilization of a designer’s methods and sensibility to address the needs of the consumer. Along with the design-driven approach, strong business strategy and technological feasibility are used to create both market opportunity and customer value. The goal is to solve more complex problems with the methodology of a designer. Moving away from the misconception of design being associated with the look of the product, and not the functionality of the product or service, this session will share insights from German experts who have incorporated design-driven approach into innovation processes, to create stronger and more successful solutions for their customers. Session 4
Session Theme: Future of Mobility in India
The global automotive industry is undergoing significant disruptions across the value chain. Driven by urbanisation; growing workforce; increasing income levels; and investments to improve infrastructure, the demand for mobility in India is likely to grow at a faster rate than ever over the next decade. If this growth continues to depend on petrol and diesel-powered internal combustion engines (ICEs), it may significantly affect the economy and environment. The need to sustainably grow the mobility ecosystem, both from an economic and environmental perspective has led to the electrification of powertrain and the introduction of electric vehicles (EVs). The Indian government and private sectors both are affirmatively embracing electric vehicles for the future.
Micromobility devices can be human-powered or electric, and can be privately-owned or available through a shared fleet. Most micromobility devices are considered to be low-speed. The future of mobility in India could also see a tryst with the autonomous driving vehicles in the upcoming future. The Germany automotive industry is the largest, strongest and most export driven industry and are considered as global electric mobility technology leader. The session will be a knowledge sharing session to have insights on the best practices followed by Germany and Indian mobility companies. Speakers:

Session Theme - Design for Clean and Sustainable Cooking services
Partner – GIZ - Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) Programme
A lack of access to clean energy and use of traditional cooking systems have severe negative effects on health, especially among women and children, and on the environment. Despite increasing attention toward this topic, few studies have explored the factors influencing consumers’ adoption of improved cooking stoves (ICS). The risks of solving the wrong problem can be dramatically reduced when donors, designers, and implementing agencies spend more time getting to understand the lives and aspirations of the people they want to help. This requires a deep appreciation for the richness and complexity of people’s values, needs, wants and lived experiences, as well as their historical, environmental and cultural contexts. The session will deliberate on bringing in users, donors, manufacturers and implementing agencies into the design process for developing sustainable and clean cooking solutions to indeed benefit the end-user.
