The initiative aims to identify and honour talented young professionals for innovative & creative design solutions.

ABOUT THE AWARDS

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with World Design Organisation (WDO) has launched ‘Young Designers Awards (YDA)’ in 2021 for the young professionals who will be the future champions. While discovering and nurturing the next generation of design talent, the award will help the design professionals develop their skills through cross-learning opportunities and networking with key industry players in the domain.

As an early indicator of success for the products in the concept stage or the yet to be launched in the market. Furthermore, this award connects young designers to a large industry base and provides the linkages among the designers and design companies.

The YDA Awards is merely not an award, it is the indicator of quality and perfection in design. The award draws keen attention of design-oriented companies, professionals, and interest groups.

TYPE OF ENTRY TO BE SUBMITTED

Concept Stage: Designs that are the concepts and yet to be developed into an actual product.

Yet to be Launched: Designs that are fully developed but are not going to be released in the market before October 2023.

WHO CAN APPLY

Group projects (max 4) will also be accepted; however only one representative should be registering on behalf of the group.

Any young designer, freelance, undergraduate and postgraduate students who are under 30 years of age during application can apply. This user account could be used for multiple entries for this year.

Incase of Student applying for the awards, it is essential that the design solution submitted for the awards is duly certified by the institution the student is affiliated to. Letter to be attached while submitting application.

The awards are open for international students and design aspirants under the age of 30 years to apply.

TIMELINES

HOW TO APPLY?

Step 1 – Registration

Self-check the eligibility of your entry

Create a user account by providing the required details

A confirmation email will be sent to your registered email ID after which you can proceed for online submission of application form

This user account could be used to submit multiple entries for this year

Step 2 – Online Submission of Application

New application can be made by the individual design student/group or independent design practitioners.

Entry description submitted should be clear, concise and persuasive. The ultimate objective is to convince the judges that, good & creative design really works and means good business.

4 PNG/JPEG images supporting the design idea / concept should be prepared for submitting the entry.

*Each image no bigger than 3MB in file size.

A presentation (max 10 slides) highlighting salient featured and overall design of the application should be kept ready to be uploaded in the application form.

Applicants can save progress as they proceed with filling the application form

Updating / editing / deleting the application information is possible multiple times till the final submission.

After final submission application cannot be changed.

Ensure that all the content in form of text & images is factual while submitting else the entry will be disqualified.

Step 3 – Jury Evaluation

Online Evaluation by Jury Panel.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The assessment criteria for the Young Designers Awards will be as follows -

Solution need and potential – How well does the concept/ design solve the identified problem and what is the future potential of the design solution. How well design thinking is used; and the process between the insights and solution would also be considered.

Aesthetics, utility and novelty – How well is design described and how well it satisfies the identified needs? What aspects of the design make it useful and novel? Is it pleasing and looks and feel well resolved?

Feasibility – Is the design solution based on logical and sound hypothesis and judgment? Has the concept addressed the identified challenges effectively and demonstrated a reasonable solution for solving them?

Magic – Does the design solution clearly demonstrate any benefits for the users, for the society, for the stakeholders? Does it show lateral, out of box thinking, does it bring about a magical feeling.

RULES & REGULATIONS

Each applicant can submit multiple entries.

The submissions made for the competition must be completely original. They should not be copied in either full or part. In case it is found that the submission is copied either during the time frame of the competition or after that, the participants will be disqualified.
